Any ideas on the best way to implement marine navigation charts into MP or QGround Control, if there isn’t an existing method?

It would be awesome if we could include ‘Navionics’ support, or similar.

Rover setup questions?

I am about to embark on a little rover build just for fun. I have printed this mini rover with a few modifications, and plan on using a pixracer. My one main question is do I have to also get a motor driver or will 2 simple brushed esc work to control the brushed motors that I plan on using. I have read through the wiki but still had that question. I plan on using these motors but still need a small ESC that would support up to 4s battery.

The fella that built this used this ESC but I am a bit skeptical about it.

Compass Calibration or lack of

Hello all, I’m not where I want to be in knowledge of these pixhawks yet but I have learned a lot reading posts on this website. I have a boat using skidsteer with 2 thrusters , all that is good.I am able to run it manual thru the pixhawk cube, my problem and its a real pain in the butt, it the heading. I am using rover 3.4.2 and mission planner 1.3.55 and I do not have an option for live calibration. I have loaded every other mission planner from 1.3.50-1.3.61 and its the same. Now in my reading on here it seems they have done away with it and have the “mag calibration” I think its also called the “on board calibration” . When I click that button nothing happens. My boat shape heading is off by 135 degrees.I could change the AHRS boat orientation but I just dont think its the right thing to do as the pixhawk is facing forward.

Also not I’m not using the Here2 gps,it blows real bad and gets lock every 4 days,lol. I have been using a ttl convertor and bringing in a trimble proxt and that seems to work great for 3d fix.

any input would be greatly appreciated, Tim

Hello everybody,

I’m really new to this community and I’m quite sure I’m using the wrong place to discuss about my project. I apologyze for that but I’m still a bit confused about the ardupilot site structure.

I do not have any kind of ardupilot hw but reading your contents, I feel this is the right way for me.
I’m an engineer and also the owner of a little farm for the production of cereals and wheat. I’m also interested to technology and my biggest dream is to merge both, my tech interesting and my farming work.
That’s the reason why I would discuss w/ you about my project in order to evaluate feasibility and next steps.
Please address me to the right blog if this is the wrong one.

Ardupilot 2.8 - Randy Mackay - Questions

@ArduNoob wrote:

:evergreen_tree:Firstly Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all:evergreen_tree:

Today I got my first Ardupilot 2.8 with the Elegoo Uno Starter Kit to help me learn the basics.

Upon installing and calibrating the Ardupilot 2.8 everything’s works perfectly. I would like to know the following info & im happy to pay whoever can assist me via PayPal and maybe we can connect via Skype for a online tutorial.

My first question is:
As you can see in this video upload provided by Randy Mackay he uses the Ardupilot to log Sonar Data and then processes the Log Data or Flash Data to then be viewed on a map visually: https://youtu.be/msX9GsBZDtY

I wanted to know rather than having the datalog/dataflash map the sonar to then be processed and viewed on google earth, is it possible to map the same data in the same way but for current and voltage sensor instead?

Randy on YouTube then replied:

It is possible because all the data is in the logs but might require some post production of the log. It’s best if we discuss this in the Ardupilot Rover Support forums.

So that’s my first query regarding logging voltage or current data and then viewing that in a google earth format.

Second Question is:

I have noticed that the PIxhawk comes with an SD card which is for storing log data. The Ardupilot does not come with a SD Card so I assume there’s something inside which stores the data. If that’s the case how much data can the Ardupilot store & am I able to upgrade the storage capabilities if the storage size isn’t large enough? Let’s say I wanted to record a rovers data for 3-4 hours, does the Ardupilot have enough internal storage to record Voltage & Current readings? I will not need data for anything else other than for saving Voltage & Current readings so maybe that might be enough space? Or ultimately will I need to send back the Ardupilot & get my Wife to buy me a Pixhawk instead?

Thanks for all your time in reading my questions and i look forward to your replies.

Kind Regards,

Mus

Best hardware for nitro boat?

@autoboat wrote:

I run an 11 cc nitro hydroplane boat. I am soliciting opinions on what autopilot hardware to use.

I intend to use it to log the IMU first, to get an understanding of the vibration levels. On one hand maybe I should go for a vibration-resistant one like the Pixhack V3 which the gas helicopter guys seem to like for its vibration resistance. On the other hand, does it make sense to spend >$200 just to get data for deciding a unit?

Still thinking about vibration, the boat pulls 8 or 10 g in regular racing maneuvers, and I have no idea how hard the vertical accelerations are as it slaps the waves at 35 m/s. 10 g? 15 g? What does this mean about the isolation approach? Should I follow what the fixed wing airplane guys or helicopter guys do because the pull those sort of g’s all the time, or more what the rover guys do because they run over rough ground?

It would be nice to have the wires coming out front and back more like the pixhack V3 and not out the sides like a lot of units for multicopters seem to do.

I am open to suggestions, hints, and tips!

@arshiyathukral wrote:

I am trying to control/set speed of my dc brushed motor using cytron dual channel motor driver in manual and auto mode. But no matter which parameter i change, speed never drops to zero when i bring my left stick down or max when i bring it up. When armed it starts with random speed. And when i bring the stick down to trim it slows down a bit and speed up a bit when brought to both the extremes in manual mode.

Also, in auto mode after arming motors they start running at random speed. I have tried changing cruise throttle and cruise speed but nothing changes the speed. Please help.

Rover crash check action reliability

@warp2 wrote:

Hi All
I have a feature suggestion:
At the moment in rover there is only Hold and HoldAndDisarm for crash check action.
I would be very much interested to have two different Crash check action.

  1. As it is
  2. A delay time were the rover goes in hold and then tries to complete the mission or repeats the delay-hold-auto cycle a configurable number of times before it goes to 1).

This would increase the reliability for long mission for example with boats where the craft can hit an object and may get free by going to hold a number of times and could complete the mission successfully.

Thanks a lot

@ArduNoob wrote:

Hi All & Happy New Year!

Wondering if a lipo battery of this size & power could potentially fry the APM 2.8. Here’s what I want to buy:

Power Module that I already own:

powerday APM Power Module V1.0 XT60 Plug for APM2.8 APM2.6 APM Pixhawk Flight Controller
-Specifications:
-Max input voltage: 30V
-Max current sensing: 90A
-Size:25219mm
-Net weight:25g
-Voltage and current measurement configured for 5V ADC
-Switching regulator outputs 5.3V and 3A max
-6-pos DF13 cable plugs directly to APM 2.5’s ‘PM’ connector
-Note: The Power Module is only designed to power APM, a RC receiver and
-APM accessories (GPS, 3DR radio). It isnotdesigned to power servos. Use your aircraft’s own ESC/BEC for that.
-The maximum input voltage 20V, maximum current measurable 90A, to achieve the control panel on battery power and voltage monitoring. The design parameters of voltage and current detector design parameters consistent with 3DR official ground station (mission planer) settings can be set directly refer to the official Wiki.

Complete Guide for beginners?

@ahmetomer wrote:

Hello,

I’m a beginner. I have a boat project that needs to route itself. Yet the project is not only about the boat rovering, it will collect some data too. As the name suggests does the ardu project work on Arduino ?

Is there a software UI for windows? Can I run the project with sonar sensors to avoid collisions?

Is there a complete beginner guide? Can I work on Python? Will the Arduino Mega or Rasperry pi 3 be enough provided with GPS, gyro, compass sensors and 4G or wifi modules?

I want to buy a reasonable priced self righting RC boat and hack it… My aim is not to reach top speeds, but to cover an area and return back without drifting away.

I will need a companion rasperry pi 3 or very similiar device(price and utility), to send some data over 4G/3G. Problem is I’m not sure if I should use the original os or the Win10IoT. Will the Mission Planner work on a pi 3 b+ win10 device?
these are the parts:

Will i need an external GPS and what other modules are essential?

Are there cheap Sonar alternatives?(there are lot cheaper sensors for sonar)
also GPS and compass list is very pricey?

or should i stritcly choose one amongst them?

can you help me on this regard.

it will have a camera connected to the Rasperry . Rasperry will have internet connection too.
Will it help me budget wise?

will i need an external RC transmitter for the boat?

If possible i would like to go with the sufficient compass gps and sonar sensor.

I will also have a 2 axis gimball with 2 servos connecting to pixhawk

this gps şs 1hz and 5v

will it work? can you help me a bit on the alternative sensors :))

external 3G to wifi modem huawei r207
compatible Cam for object detection

I still couldn’t choose the GPS and COMPASS along with SONAR because of the prices. Below I post some sensors that are quite affordable. will they work seamlessly with pixhawk and ardurover?

I really need to order them ASAP and start working because ı know this project will be definetly very hard for me.

I will also have a 2 axis gimball with 2 servos connecting to pixhawk to stabilize the Camera(I want to install it in 90’ angled position to make it roll and tilt not tilt and pan if possible tho)

this gps şs 1hz and 5v (will it gonna work seamlessly?)

Will this sonar work efortlessly with ardurover?(it is very cheap for collusion avoidance)

I really need to select my components and order them to start the project.

any help is very appreciated.

Window 10 - not connecting pixhawk 2.4 on either MP or QC

@tonyrjohnson wrote:

Hi, I am building a rover using defender tank with skid steering, and as far as I can tell have connected all the essential items. Two things happen. One the pixhawk after a while settles to double flash yellow. Second both qc and mp say they are essentially waiting to connect i.e. not seeing the pix connected to USB. I have read as much as I can and it seems from reading that this may be a w10 com issue but I have tried device manager (which looks different in 10 and does not show com ports). I tried rebooting and downloading software again but no joy. I realise this is newbie stuff but I am currently hung up on this and would appreciate a gentle guiding hand. I even looked at trying to configure com using command prompt but that looks fraught. I have also tried this on two computers a laptop and desktop same result. All the bits are connected except radio which I am not using. I am powering from lipo so not just usb.
